Health Insurance Counseling for Seniors
Health insurance counseling offers a free, one-hour consultation with a trained volunteer insurance counselor who will be able to answer your questions about Medicare and supplemental insurance policies (including HMOs and long-term care coverage). The counselor can help you select the best supplemental insurance for your needs and can also help you set up a system to organize your bills and forms to make claim filing easier.
There is no charge for this service. Health insurance counseling is available to you through the joint efforts of the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) and Senior Focus.
Claims assistance provides a more detailed service to help you file claims. Our experienced Health Insurance Counselors have training in financial management and billing and years of experience in working with health insurance companies. They can help you get all the benefits to which you are entitled. An hourly fee is charged for this service.
The following services are available: collect paperwork from an individual's home, organize and review medical bills and other health insurance-related paperwork, submit bills to Medicare and supplemental insurance policies, and communicate, both verbally and in writing with physicians, health insurance companies, Medicare, etc., whenever necessary and maintain updated records for tax and personal purposes.
