Skilled physicians, advanced tools
Mills-Peninsula's board-certified radiologist physicians and technologists have the most advanced tools to provide diagnostic studies ranging from general X-ray and ultrasound to sophisticated nuclear medicine and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Software) stores digitized X-rays and other radiographic images to make them quickly available electronically to physicians so they can provide the most timely diagnosis and treatment. CT, MRI, Ultrasound, general X-ray and PET images can be viewed from any secure internet connected computer.

Specialized Services

Two new high-resolution MRI scanners
MRI creates pictures of organs and structures in the body using a magnetic field and pulses of radio wave energy. In many cases, MRI provides information that cannot be obtained from X-rays. Radiologists are skilled at interpreting extensive musculoskeletal and neurological images.

Breast MRI program

CT scanning
State-of-the-art scanners for diagnosis and disease staging, including a research program focused on early detection of lung cancer.

Ultrasound
Including abdominal, fetal, thyroid, gynecologic, obstetric and breast.

Interventional radiology
Biopsies and noncardiac angiography

Nuclear medicine
An imaging method that uses X-ray-like technology to diagnose functional and systemic diseases such as heart problems, cancer, gastrointestinal and thyroid disorders.

Bone scans are used to evaluate damage to bones, detect cancer that has spread (metastasized) to bones, and monitor conditions that can affect bones (including infection and trauma).

PET (Positron Emission Tomography)
An important tool for precise diagnosis and disease staging, particularly of cancer. PET detects changes in cellular function. Since these take place before physical changes occur, PET can provide information that allows the physician to make an earlier diagnosis or to determine if current treatment is working effectively.

School of Diagnostic Imaging
Mills-Peninsula offers a two-year accredited training program for radiologic technologists at Peninsula Medical Center in Burlingame. The School of Diagnostic Imaging includes clinical experience and academic instruction.

In a cooperative agreement with the University of St. Francis in Illinois, students who achieve a Certificate in Radiologic Technology at Mills-Peninsula also have the opportunity to complete a Bachelor of Science in Health Arts through the University. Mills-Peninsula also is developing an MRI training program.
