Total joint replacements, including minimally invasive and outpatient total joint arthroplasties. People preparing for hip replacement go to a class to help them prepare and then recover successfully at home. Disk replacement Repair of painful spine fractures resulting from osteoporosis Sports medicine Nonoperative treatment of musculoskeletal injuries with casting and therapies Nonoperative treatment of orthopedic pain (arms, legs, spine) Microsurgery (hand injuries)
Advanced sports medicine Mills-Peninsula's experienced orthopedic surgeons specialize in the treatment of athletic injuries using the most advanced arthroscopic approaches.
The arthroscope is a tool similar to a miniature lighted telescope that allows the surgeon to see inside the joint with just a half-inch incision. Using the arthroscope as a guide, he or she can insert other small instruments to perform the necessary procedure, including complex ligament reconstruction of knees and shoulders, rotator cuff repair and cartilage transplants.
This advanced outpatient approach results in faster recovery, less pain and minimal or no scarring.
Minimally invasive surgery Mills-Peninsula was first on the San Francisco Peninsula to offer minimally invasive approaches to hip and knee replacement.
The less invasive approach means a shorter hospital stay and recovery time – all resulting in a better experience for patients who qualify for these procedures.
This advanced approach is possible thanks to a combination of technology and specialized surgical training. The smaller incisions result in less trauma to deep tissues. New anesthesia protocols and better pain management allow more intense post-surgical physical therapy. That means patients can get up, walk and go home sooner, some as early as the day after surgery.
High-tech navigation Mills-Peninsula orthopedic surgeons are first in the San Francisco Bay Area to introduce a new computer tool that improves the quality of hip and knee replacement, usually including shortening hospital and rehabilitation time. The new Stryker navigation tool uses computer technology to guide positioning the replacement joint. An infrared camera and instruments, along with unique tracking software, monitor the position, angles and alignment of the implant in relation to the patient' anatomy.
