San Mateo Parks and Recreation mission is to provide and facilitate leisure experiences to the citizens of San Mateo by:

  • Providing safe, well-maintained, and attractive park, open-space, and community facilities
  • Offering and facilitating a wide array of leisure opportunities for all age groups that enhance the physical, intellectual, social, and cultural growth and development of our citizenry
  • Ensuring reasonable access to all programs and facilities by bridging physical and economic gaps that impede participation
  • Acting as stewards in preserving and protecting the City's natural resources, including its urban forest, public open spaces, pedestrian and bicycle trails, athletic fields, and landscaped medians and islands.
San Mateo's Parks and Recreation Department constantly strives to provide you with the highest quality recreation programs. If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with a class or activity, please tell us so that we can respond to your concerns. Your feedback helps us improve; in addition, for nearly all of our programs, we will arrange one of the following upon your request:
  • Transfer to another time or activity.
  • A full credit for future use for any activity we offer.
  • A full refund.
Some of our programs - for example, Adult Leagues, Facility Permits, and Tour and Travel - are governed by unique policies. Your complete satisfaction with these programs is equally valued, and we will work with you to resolve your concerns in these areas as well.

Please contact us in writing, by phone, or in person at any of our recreation centers to request a refund or credit. Requests must be made within ten business days after the end of the session.
