Women, start your workout

Jump rope, or step onto a stairmaster or treadmill while watching your favorite TV show,” Helen Chaknova, director of Health and Fitness at Mills-Peninsula, says.

“Aerobic exercise is one of the best ways to deal with heart disease, stress, fatigue and chronic illness,” she said.
Aerobic exercise means using arms or legs for an extended period of time to achieve and sustain a heart rate within an aerobic training range. “Walking, biking, jogging, swimming also are great aerobic activities,” Chaknova said.

Benefits include:

  • Decreased fatigue, blood pressure, body fat and fatty plaque buildup in your arteries that can lead to cardiovascular disease
  • Increased good cholesterol levels, calories burned, muscle tone, endurance, ability to deal with stress, energy, quality of sleep and improved self image.

“Regular aerobic movement is key to a more healthful lifestyle,” Chaknova said.

Consult your doctor and exercise physiologist or personal trainer before starting on an exercise routine that differs from your regular workout.
