Common Terms Used to Describe Blood Cell Count
Red Blood Count (RBC):

Differential Count:
The proportions of the different types of white blood cells varies in infection, allergies, etc.
Platelet Count:
The count of the number of these cells which participates in blood clotting
Hemogoblin:
A measure of the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood

Phlebotomy

To guarantee proper collection, the phlebotomist is required to verbally confirm the patient's identification. The patient will be asked to state their first and last name, as well as date of birth.
The phlebotomist will compare this information with the specimen label.

To assure patient safety, a new and unused needle kit and tubes are shown to the patient prior to the blood being drawn.
