New Graduate FAQs
Do you have a new grad program?
Yes. We hire and train new grad nurses for designated positions in Med/Surg and Critical Care. We sometimes hire trainees in Labor & Delivery.
When does it start?
Training begins when the most qualified candidate is selected for a designated open position.
Is there a deadline to apply?
There is no deadline, but because of the high volume of applicants it is advisable to apply as soon as you see a posted position for which you are qualified.
How do I apply?
Apply through our online job board at http://www.mills-peninsula.org/jobs. Click on the title of posted training position, click Apply Now and follow the prompts.
When do I apply?
Any time there is a designated training position posted on the website.
I am a new grad interested in Mom Baby; are there any new grad programs available?
We hire an average of 1-3 new grads per year for training in Labor & Delivery. When we do have a designated posting for this unit, the candidate must have completed a senior capstone in OB/L&D to be considered.
Do I need to bring my resume in person?
No. The online application allows you to download or cut & paste your resume.
When will I hear back from someone?
When you submit your application online you will get an automatic response to inform you that your application has been received. Due to the large volume of new grad applications we receive, it is not possible to verbally confirm each application. The most qualified candidates are selected for interviews and contacted by the hiring manager within 4 weeks.
What does the training consist of?
Med/Surg: 6-8 weeks or 20 shifts of one-on-one training with a preceptor and nurse educator
ICU/TCU: 10-12 weeks classroom and clinical training with preceptor and educator
Labor & Delivery: The first 3-4 weeks of training is in mom/baby. The new grad then works in mom/baby for several months before being trained in Labor & Delivery for the next 3-4 months. It is a combination of didactic and ‘on the job’ training.
How long is the program & how is it structured?
The new grad training is individually structured to meet the needs of the nurse and the department.
I graduated last year; can I still apply for the new grad program?
At this time we will consider new grad candidates who have completed an accredited nursing program within 6 months of applying to a designated training position.
Are there any prerequisites for the ICU or TCU Training program?
Yes, we will consider new grad applicants who have completed a senior preceptorship in critical care.
On average how many new grads do you hire each year?
We hire on average about 40 new grads per year. This varies according to the staffing needs at any given time.
Do I have a better chance of a position if I apply for all new grad openings?
Applying for one position is sufficient enough to provide the nurse recruiter with information on your skills, experience, etc. Applying for more than one new grad position may prolong the process, since every application is reviewed individually.
What is the starting salary for new graduates?
Are there 8 hour shifts or 12 hour shifts available?
All new grads are trained on 8 hour shifts.
Does Mills-Peninsula Health Services offer any new grad reimbursement packages?
Yes, we reimburse for NCLEX fees, Prep class, and the Board of Registered Nursing Application fee.

Are RN Interim Permitee’s accepted into a new grad program?
