Diabetes Self-Management Center

Mills-Peninsula's Diabetes Education Program, certified by the American Diabetes Association, helps people manage their disease. Doctor referral is required for most services. Relatives are welcome at no additional cost.

Individual Counseling

  • Self-care education provided by certified diabetes educators
  • Medical nutrition therapy provided by registered dietitians who are certified diabetes educators

    Group Education

    Comprehensive course covers nutrition management, medications, exercise, glucose self-monitoring, prevention of complications, problem solving, stress management and how to use community and health care resources. Classes taught by certified diabetes educators who provide individual assessment and follow-up. Doctor referral is required. Fee.

    Fitness Programs

    Individualized aerobic exercise program to improve blood glucose control and cardiovascular condition. Exercise classes are taught by a registered nurse who also is a certified diabetes educator. Doctor referral is required. Fee.

    Cholesterol Screening

    Cholesterol screenings are offered by appointment throughout the year. The full lipid profile requires a 12-hour fast (water and medications only) and includes total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides. Fee.

    Diabetes and Pregnancy

    "Sweet Success" is a program especially for women who either:

  • have diabetes and are planning a pregnancy; or are pregnant; or
  • develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy

    This program helps women control blood glucose levels to increase likelihood of a healthy pregnancy and normal delivery.

    Dorothy L. & James E. Frank Diabetes Research Institute

    The research institute is currently seeking volunteers who wish to have access to various investigational drugs and devices before they are available to the general public. Call (650) 696-4260 for more information.

    Hours: Monday - Thursday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
    Friday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
