Prostate cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in men (after non-melanoma skin cancers) and a major focus at the Dorothy E. Schneider Cancer Center.
The risk of getting prostate cancer increases as you age, but fortunately most of these cancers grow slowly. If detected early, prostate cancer is highly curable.
Our world-class team of urologists, oncologists, physicists and nurses provide comprehensive and compassionate prostate cancer care in a healing environment. Treatments are overseen by a multi-disciplinary tumor board, which carefully plans the best course of action for each patient.
Our services include:
Medical oncology, with doctors who specialize in prostate cancer who plan your course of hormone therapy, as well as chemotherapy and immunotherapy if needed. Your treatments depend, in part, on the stage of your prostate cancer.
Radiation oncology, including external beam radiation as well as low-dose internal radiation (brachytherapy), in which tiny radioactive seeds are placed in prostate tissue. The seeds deliver low-dose radiation over a long period of time, and never need to be removed. Prostate cancer radiation therapy can also be delivered by external beam radiation.
Radiosurgery, a noninvasive treatment that can remove some prostate tumors without cutting into the body. It reduces the course of radiation for some patients from seven weeks to three days.
Surgical oncology, using minimally invasive or robotic-assisted surgery for prostectomy when possible for faster recovery and fewer post-surgery side effects.
Symptom management, managed by our nurse navigators to help you reduce side effects from treatment and ease the symptoms of cancer.
Nutrition services, which help reduce symptoms such as nausea or dehydration and boost your appetite and energy.
Support and counseling, including emotional counseling and referral to support groups for you and your family.
