When your teen is experiencing mental health or substance abuse issues including depression, thoughts of suicide, drug or alcohol dependency or an eating disorder, you want to find the right help immediately. Our qualified and compassionate staff are here to help your teenager get his or her life back on track. Our comprehensive range of mental health and psychiatric services include treatment for acute psychiatric emergencies and both hospital-based and outpatient programs. We offer superior programs for teenagers with the following problems:

Acute Psychiatric Emergency Services at the Hospital
If your teenager is suffering from an urgent psychiatric crisis including threatening self-harm or suicide, psychiatric crisis intervention and assessment are available at the Mills-Peninsula Medical Center’s (hospital) Psychiatric Emergency Department, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
23-hour Psychiatric Observation Services
For your teenagers’ safety and for 23-hour observation to ensure the best treatment plan, he or she may also be admitted to the secured inpatient unit at Mills Health Center in San Mateo.
Inpatient Mental Health Program
We provide the only inpatient program in San Mateo County for teenagers suffering from depression, thoughts of suicide, substance dependency, eating disorders and other mental health issues. Intensive short-term treatment is provided in a secure nursing unit. Teenagers receive treatment in a healing environment in the 13-bed unit at Mills Health Center. Our goal is to stabilize your teen and help him or her then move to our excellent outpatient program to continue on the road to recovery.
Outpatient Mental Health Program
This after-school program helps teens who are experiencing psychiatric symptoms including psychotic depression, eating disorders, drug and alcohol abuse issues and oppositional behavior. Therapy focuses on symptom relief, problem solving and improving your teen’s ability to function independently and return to an active and productive life.
