Senior Day Treatment Program

For some older adults, drinking becomes a problem instead of a pleasure. Retirement, loss of family and friends, reduced physical capacity due to illness or aging -- may contribute to alcohol or drug dependencies. Often people are afraid, unaware or ashamed of the problem; individuals may isolate themselves and increase their drinking or dependency on drugs.

The Senior Alcohol and Drug Program helps adults 55 and older cope with daily living without the use of chemicals. Our staff understands the problems seniors face and has extensive experience helping people fight alcoholism and drug dependency.

Most of the cost of the program is covered by Medicare or Medicare HMO plans. We work with participants to develop an appropriate payment plan.
Participants come to the Senior Focus Center in Burlingame, two to four days per week, depending on needs (the program is closed on Wednesdays).

Participants are evaluated and a treatment plan is tailored to individual needs.

Key program components include:

  • Group therapy with experienced professionals
  • Exercise therapy
  • Physical therapy, if needed
  • Introduction to Alcoholics Anonymous
  • Stress reduction
  • Assertiveness training
  • Hot meals and nutrition instruction
  • Family education and support
  • Transportation to and from the center, if needed
