Drug & Alcohol Abuse Treatment
Acute Detoxification
Drug and alcohol abuse treatment, acute detoxification, involves comprehensive physical, chemical dependency and rehabilitation assessments. Detoxification is a serious medical process that usually takes three to five days, depending on the substance.Mills-Peninsula provides intensive medical management of detoxification for adults age 18 and older in a confidential hospital unit using state-of-the-art procedures. We are certified to use the most current medications designed to support detoxification and alleviate symptoms, and maintain sobriety. High doses of these medications may be used early to control the worst symptoms. Doses are then gradually reduced over several days.
Services are provided by a multidisciplinary team. Our licensed nursing staff and chemical dependency therapists are highly experienced and focused solely on safe detoxification and comprehensive planning for recovery.
All admitting doctors are board-certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). They are supported by psychiatric staff to care for patients with a dual diagnosis.
Detoxification is followed by rehabilitation treatment which, depending on individual need, may include brief inpatient treatment, day treatment or participation in our intensive outpatient program. Each patient participates in the development of his/her own recovery plan with input from family and significant others.
Clinical studies and experience demonstrate that successful recovery is directly related to the length of outpatient treatment. Mills-Peninsula's outpatient programs provide up to 12 weeks of treatment and support. In 2000 and 2001, our individualized approach resulted in the highest overall patient satisfaction ratings within the 26-hospital, not-for-profit Sutter Health network.
