Newborn hearing screening program
Under state-mandated guidelines, babies born at Mills-Peninsula are screened for hearing loss. Hearing tests are done in the Family Birth Center when babies are just a few hours old.
Diagnostic infant follow-up
Babies who do not pass the hearing screening for both ears are referred to Mills Health Center for a complete diagnostic evaluation. As a regional center for the Newborn Hearing Screening Program, Mills-Peninsula accepts referrals from other participating health care organizations.
Diagnostic audiological evaluations and hearing aid fittings
Services for adults and children referred by primary care physicians, ear, nose and throat specialists (ENT), San Mateo County, California Children's Services (CCS), and Medi-CAL.
Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) Testing
Noninvasive procedure to evaluate hearing sensitivity and brain auditory pathways. The procedure takes place while the child is resting quietly or sleeping.
Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) Testing
Noninvasive procedure to evaluate children with normal peripheral hearing but whose brain has difficulty in processing acoustic information. Designed for children between 5 and 12 who have auditory processing disorders.
Hearing aid dispensing
Each hearing instrument is carefully chosen based on individual needs, style preference and budget. Digital, programmable and discrete (small) hearing aids are available with the latest technology.
Courtesy hearing aid consultation
Bring in current hearing test results (audiogram) to a free one-hour appointment. Discuss hearing aid needs, devices, styles, technology, pricing and accessories available through Mills-Peninsula. Appointment required.
Dizziness testing
If you are experiencing significant dizziness or vertigo, your doctor can refer you for testing to determine the cause and possible treatment options. We use a painless and non-invasive camera technology called videonystagmography (VNG).
