Aquatics Program
Mills-Peninsula offers aquatic exercise in the Mack E. Mickelson Arthritis & Rehabilitation Center pool at Mills Health Center in San Mateo. The 24-foot x 82-foot wheelchair accessible pool is kept at a warm temperature suitable for aquatic exercise.
A physician's approval and orientation (fee) are required. Participants bring their own swim suits. Aquatic shoes are highly recommended. Dressing rooms, showers, lockers and towels are available. The first step is making an appointment for a pool orientation by calling: 650-696-4319.
Benefits of Water Exercise
The warmth, buoyancy and gentle resistance of water offer important benefits for people who are recovering from an injury or illness, managing a chronic disease such as arthritis, or who simply need to ease back into exercise.
In warm water, people with limited mobility can perform exercises that they are unable to accomplish on land
